Supreme Significance

It is extremely interesting to see the way the complaints have swayed over the latest nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. While Sonia Sotomayor is the most technically qualified nominee in the last 100 years, all of the “action” from the Conservatives is focused on her race and her past statements taken out of context.

Media heavyweights like Lou Dobbs Tonight, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity have gone out of their way to bring guests onto their shows that blatantly try to skew the conversation. Intentionally bringing on Caucasian guests that support the nominee and Hispanic guests that oppose her, is an obvious ploy and shoddy reporting at best.

Apparently the Conservative wheel believes that we are gullible enough to quantify our beliefs and views based on color. These media outlets are playing the race card with the best of them and for that they should be ashamed.

Let’s stop playing the Party game and actually look at a person’s qualifications, not their political affiliations, race, or gender.

That’s what I’m saying…

Just when I started spreading the word about my upcoming Congressional campaign and letting people know that I believe we need more “real people” in Washington D.C., I see a news story showing President Obama hosting another “cool” party at the White House. Does anyone else think that this is exactly what we need?

I really believe that it’s time there were more regular people representing us in Congress and the Senate. In many corners of the country, including my home district, there seems to be a major disconnect between what Representatives are doing and what their constituents actually want. Here in Nebraska’s 1st District, I intend to do everything I can to represent everyday people and their interests in Washington D.C.

Our time is now. Let’s not miss this opportunity to take advantage of the best minds available to run our country…our own!

Could common sense become more common?

If it’s up to President Obama, the answer is a resounding, “YES.” Today, the President effectively ended the days of ridiculous spending practices held by the Federal Government as regards awarding contracts. The days of no-bid and cost-plus contracts are over and the President says that he will open up the bidding to small businesses as well. Obama said “the days of giving government contractors a blank check are over” and said changes could save up to $40 billion a year. Well, that’s a step in the right direction!

Yes, folks, Democrats like to cut spending too. We just like to cut wasteful spending and not parts of the budget that actually do our people and our country some good. Shh, don’t let this get out, but we are also against raising taxes. The difference is, we understand that if the country is in a mess, WE ALL have to help to fix it.

The Republican theory of, “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” and, “making your own way,” is really  just a camouflaged, “every man for himself” philosophy. That’s not what America is about. Did our forefathers take that approach, or did they all work together to “form a more perfect union” in their time? If we spent more time thinking, “every man for each other,” we’d move out of this economic debacle much sooner and would probably end up being better people for the effort.
